The tradition of handing out cigars at a birth has been part of our culture since the 18th Century. The less frequently acknowledged tradition of keeping the cigar box and filling it with life’s mementos most assuredly soon followed. Like my father and his father before him, I have kept a cigar box “treasure chest” on my dresser since the birth of our first child. As you can imagine, it is constantly bursting at the seams with hand-made birthday cards, baby teeth, report cards…
As we look forward as expectant fathers, imagining the lives of our new offspring, we also look back at the traditions and heritage we come from. Let this box stand proudly on your dresser, not simply as a place to store valued souvenirs, but as a reminder of the generations of men who were fathers before us, and the pride with which you join them.
We are honored to induct you into fatherhood. May your treasure chest be overflowing.
Best wishes –
